Olena Newkryta (*1990, Ukraine) is a visual artist, curator and cultural worker based in Vienna. Her research based works are primarily concerned with how individual and collective subjectivities are shaped by historical, political, economic conditions ans technological infrastructures. Recognizing objects, images and spaces as sources for a critical inquiry of contemporary socio-political issues, she aims to excavate and make productive the entangled histories which are inscribed in them. Olena studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna as well as at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and is currently a member of The Golden Pixel Cooperative - an association for moving images, arts and media.
Olena has received various prizes and grants such as the Working Grant For Artists of the City of Vienna (2022), START scholarship of the Federal Ministry for Culture (2019), Prize of the Lentos Museum Friends (2018), Award of the Kunsthalle Wien (2017).
